History and Design:
The first Philippine one-centavo coin was issued under American rule in 1903.
OBVERSE
- An adolescent male native seated at an anvil and holding a hammer in
his right hand. In the background is the Mayon volcano, with billowing
smoke coming from the crater, located on the main island of Luzon. On
the upper periphery of the coin is the denomination “ONE CENTAVO” and on
the lower periphery is the word “FILIPINAS”.
REVERSE - An eagle perched atop a shield. On the outer periphery are the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and the year of issue

Design: The obverse features PANGULONG FERDINAND E. MARCOS (President Ferdinand E. Marcos - Philippine president from 30 December 1965 to 25 February 1986) and Setyembre 21, 1972 (September 21, 1972, date when then President Marcos placed the Philippines under Martial Law by Proclamation 1081). On the upper periphery of the coin is the phrase ANG BAGONG LIPUNAN (The New Society) and year of issue The reverse design features State title REPUBLIKA NG PILIPINAS (Republic of the Philippines), coat of arms, coin value.
